This tour will take in all the best lookouts and interesting sites on the Otago Peninsula. We take the High Road and the Low Road showcasing the picturesque harbour and the rugged ocean coastline. Enjoy touring the tidal lagoons where a variety of wading birds can be seen. We take a short walk to view volcanic rock formations. Then we visit Taiaroa Heads, home to NZ Furseals, nesting Cormorants and Little Blue Penguins. We go inside the Royal Albatross Visitor Centre for a look at the information Gallery, Giftshop and Cafe. If we are lucky we may see the majestic Royal Albatross in flight.
The Yellow Eyed Penguin is a rare and endangered bird. This tour will visit many of the spectacular places mentioned above on the Otago Peninsula. The highlight is a tour of Penguin Place, a special conservation reserve set up to help protect these penguins from predators and to give them a better chance at survival. Your guide will take you to visit the Penguin Rehabilitation Centre and then on a guided walk through the Yellow Eyed Penguin reserve. The reserve has specially designed viewing huts and hides built to minimise our impact on the penguins and the environment. The majestic Northern Royal Albatross is a major wildlife attraction on the Peninsula. These enormous birds can have a wingspan of 3 metres in length!
